MLB 2018 Postseason Bracket and Predictions (Oct. 21 Edition)

The bracket is set. Only the champion is to be determined.

It’s pre-Championship Series time now, and that means both Pennants have been won, and the stage is set.

It was expected that the Red Sox would rout the defending champion, but honestly, I didn’t think it would be in five games. Six or seven? Maybe. But the Sox just keep on dominating. After the Astros won Game 1, they lost the next four, including all three home games, similar to how the Yankees lost both home games to the Sox in the ALDS. It must be a Red Sox thing.

And now, they’re on their way to the big show, with home field advantage.

This was expected. The entire American League side of my bracket was successfully predicted, which means I’m a pro predictor (yep, that’s a real word). However, if we look at my original bracket, we can see that the National League side vaguely resembled what it is now. At the time it was made, though, the Dodgers were not expected to even make it to the NLCS.

But boy, did things change quickly.

I eventually updated my bracket to predict a Dodgers-Brewers NLCS, and I was right. But my pick to win that series was still the Brewers, even until the end. I wanted the Brewers to win the series, mainly because they’ve never won an NL Pennant, but then quickly realized something that I already knew.

Whichever National League team wins the Pennant, either one is going to get wrecked (or rekt) by the Red Sox. And I didn’t want to see the Brewers get rekt on the world stage; I’d rather see the Dodgers get rekt. So, I decided to root for the Dodgers to win the NLCS, and–yippee–they did.

Discord user @citron stated about the Brewers loss:

I woke up this morning, and heard my dad say the Brewers got ‘fucked’. That’s when I knew it was all over.

It pains me to even think about a Red Sox World Series win, especially since they only won five years ago and barely need another one. But I’d rather see them win it against the pathetic 30-year drought Dodgers than the never-year underdog Brewers. There’s a difference between being an underdog and being downright pathetic, and in this postseason, we’ve seen plenty of both.

There’s only one thing left to do now: sit back, grab the popcorn, watch the World Series, and when it’s all over, officially write and publish the final article in this series of articles. If you’re new here, after each postseason series, I will write a new article with an updated bracket. There’s already been four, and this is the fifth, so if you’re not following my series of articles on this, I suggest you check out the first four articles to see my original predictions.

Also, I’m hosting the official 2018 MLB playoffs bracket on Challonge, which will be complete when the playoffs are complete, of course. It will even contain exact scores from each game, so check that out now.

This is it. Win or take all. A 108-win season for the Sox will be considered a failure if it doesn’t end in a World Series. On the other hand, the Dodgers look to erase their half-ass season, and prove their haters wrong by winning it all.

It’s gonna be a bumpy ride for one of these teams.
